Pay based on how you drive
In my many different projects and roles over the years as a writer, maybe the most common request from business partners is to “give it some personality” or “make it feel fun.”
Instead of getting frustrated by the moving target this sometimes creates, I’ve learned to love the challenge. In fact, imbuing content with fun is, believe it or not, quite fun.
Getting to know you
This time, the ask was to create an immersive “BuzzFeed-type quiz” to help customers find their driver personality. We’d then recommend a policy type based on their answers.
This was a welcome change from the only-slightly-less-fun internal CRM for Allstate agents I was working on, so I jumped right in.
Design decisions
The line between fun and professional is something I love to find. I didn’t want to go full BuzzFeed (“4 Driver Personalities—number 2 will shock you!”), but also knew the quiz would be a bust if it felt like a bland form.
A couple design decisions that helped were:
Adding some visual interest with underlying video corresponding with each question.
Asking the question, but then including a second (“fun”) rephrasing of each question.
The finished product
The final quiz was, admittedly, fun.
Below are some of the screens from the quiz. But if you’d like to get to know yourself a little better… you can take the quiz.
Who are you behind the wheel?
-
Where do you live?
Is bumper-to-bumper traffic your norm, or is it just you and the open road?
-
How do you drive?
Is your turn signal more of a request or a warning?
-
When do you drive the most?
Are you a night owl or an early bird?
-
About how many miles do you drive a day?
Is your commute more "one or two songs" or "an entire playlist" long?
-
Urban Road Warrior
-
Street Navigator
-
Steady Cruiser
